Today’s buildings and plants are complex and dynamic structures encompassing a variety of building automation and control systems for environment, operations, data, communications, safety, and security. Often, systems fail to achieve their full capacity which can result in lost money, time, resources, or the overall health of building occupants. Ensuring that these systems operate properly and at peak efficiency requires knowledgeable, experienced facilities consultants offering a systematic approach across all phases of a project.
We are dedicated to helping your facility run at peak efficiency and improve the overall functionality of your systems.
Buildings with lower operating costs are unmistakably more profitable. Overall energy efficiency is the largest controllable operating cost for most buildings. Commissioning (Cx) is a quality-oriented, systematic process for achieving, verifying, and documenting that the performance of facility systems and assemblies meets defined owner objectives and criteria. This process begins at project inception during the predesign phase and continues through the occupancy and operations phase.
MBP is one of only 40+ firms recognized by the Building Commissioning Certification Board (BCCB) for demonstrating the highest standards in professional commissioning services.
Retro-Commissioning (RCx), or Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx), is the application of the commissioning process to existing buildings. Through this process, we examine how building systems are operated and maintained, and then identify ways to restore them to optimal performance. We address problems that have developed throughout the building’s life and may even extend back to issues which arose during building design or construction. The overall goal is to optimize the facility’s energy consumption profile which often correlates with significant financial savings.
Monitoring-based commissioning (MBCx) is a glimpse into the future of commissioning and building performance. It involves the use of real-time data to measure trends in energy use and to diagnose problems, discover savings opportunities, and help ensure those savings continue into the future. Through our program, building operators and owners have real-time access to data and a system that ranks equipment performance from worst to best, quickly identifying the source of the problem. Our cloud-based MBCx tool offers operation and maintenance technicians both standard preset analytics as well as the flexibility to develop customized analytics and reports. MBCx allows building operators to maintain their facilities near peak design efficiency and eliminate system performance drift.
MBP assists owners and their design teams to select and implement design and technology features that meet LEED project requirements and achieve overall sustainability goals. Our facilities consultants include LEED APs with specific expertise in areas such as energy management and building systems commissioning. We also bring experience in sustainable site design, stormwater management and erosion control practices, evaluation of new construction vs. existing building rehabilitation, energy efficiency and renewable energy systems, indoor air quality, environmental balancing, hazardous materials abatement, and life cycle cost analysis.
There are many local, state and federal accessible design and construction requirements, and they often differ between projects depending on the project’s location, building type, and funding source. MBP’s expert staff can reduce our clients’ risk of facing federal fines and reconstruction fees by providing quality inspection services to verify compliance with the Fair Housing Act (FHA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) criteria. We work throughout the construction of the project to alert owners of design and construction errors, so they can be remedied before completion of the project. MBP documents its findings in a written report of deficiencies with an FHA/ADA accessibility checklist to facilitate compliance.
