The Silver Line, Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Silver Line

Northern Virginia

MBP has been involved in all aspects of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, also known as the Silver Line, as part of the project management support services team, including management of Phase 1 task orders to complete the punchlist, construction support for both Packages A and B, project controls support including a scheduler and several estimators, turnover and closeout management, and contracts support. The Silver Line Metrorail project is a 23.1-mile extension of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Metrorail system in the rapidly growing Dulles Corridor. The project will add 11 stations, including constructing a new rail yard on Dulles Airport property and procuring 128 railcars.

Phase 1 of the project included five new heavy rail stations along 11.7 miles, extending the existing system from East Falls Church to Wiehle Avenue in Reston, Virginia, a tunnel in Tysons Corner, and a rail yard at West Falls Church. Phase 2 continues 11.4 miles from Wiehle Avenue to eastern Loudoun County, adding six stations, with one running through Dulles International Airport. Both phases included roadway improvements, surface and garage parking facilities, relocation of existing utilities, stormwater management, traction power substations, station platforms, kiss-and-ride stations, pedestrian bridges, at-grade and elevated guideways, and support infrastructure.
