Lakeside Drive Over Blackwater Creek
Lynchburg, VA
MBP developed the Quality Control Plan and is providing quality control inspection services for the City of Lynchburg’s new Lakeside Drive Bridge over Blackwater Creek. This design-build project realigns U.S. 221 Lakeside Drive, improving traffic flow and safety near the University of Lynchburg and serving as a precursor to the College Lake Dam removal project.
The project features a new 366-foot, four-lane, multi-span bridge with shared-use paths, a five-leg roundabout at Old Forest Road, College Drive, and Hopwood Drive, and upgraded pedestrian sidewalks throughout the corridor. More than 3,400 cubic yards of concrete—utilizing a variety of mix types—were used to ensure cost-effective, low-maintenance solutions. This project was recognized with the 2023 ACI Virginia Commonwealth Award.
