City of Wilmington, Fire Station No. 2 Empie Park

Wilmington, NC

MBP provided fundamental commissioning services during the construction and acceptance phases for the mechanical, HVAC, domestic hot water, and lighting systems. During functional performance testing, our team identified and resolved several critical issues. These included a malfunctioning thermostatic mixing valve that failed to limit domestic hot water to 110°F and a safety alarm that did not activate when water temperatures exceeded 120°F. We also discovered that the mechanical room thermostats were operating opposite of their intended design. MBP documented the issues, coordinated with the contractor, and confirmed the replacement and correction of the faulty controllers.

The project involved a new 9,000-square-foot LEED Certified fire station featuring maintenance and parking bays, training areas, a dispatch office, and living quarters for fire personnel.
