Kirk Tucker has 30 years of experience in construction management, performing a wide variety of services including establishing budgets, projecting schedules, contracts, and long lead items for the project team, tracking project progress, change orders and budgets, and communicating with client and subcontractors through project completion. He has significant experience providing project management services for both public and private clients throughout the Northeast. As an Area Manager, Kirk is responsible for overseeing operations in our New York and Philadelphia offices and for managing workflow and utilization of our team members.

Q&A

1. What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?: Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Being inquisitive and asking questions of people with more experience is one of the best ways to gain experience. It’s also one of the great things about MBP. There is a wealth of knowledge here, and I always tell other Team Members that if they have a question I can’t answer, I can probably steer them toward someone who can.
2. What’s your favorite part of working in this industry?: Finding solutions to the problems and challenges encountered on projects. Every day will be different, and you never know what new issue will arise that will require some type of problem-solving to get the project back on track. No matter how well you may have planned, you need to be prepared to address issues to keep things moving forward, without creating more risk for the client or your firm.
3. What’s something you’ve loved since you were a kid—and still do today?: Bike riding and skiing. Like many people, I loved riding my bike as a kid. I enjoy mountain biking and recently started road cycling as well. I’m headed to Vermont to do some mountain biking in late June. This winter, I was lucky enough to ski in four states this past winter: Pennsylvania, Vermont, California, and Nevada.
4. What’s your proudest accomplishment at MBP so far?: I worked on the Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. I was lucky enough to be part of a great team MBP put together. We helped about 5,000 homeowners rebuild their houses in New Jersey. The entire New York office stayed in New Jersey Monday through Friday for about two years, and we brought in Team Members from other offices for extended durations when they were available to help.
5. What’s one skill or quality you believe is key to success in your field?: An approach called “Manage by Fact” was taught at a firm I used to work at. Essentially, it means that you need to be sure you have assessed all of the available information before making a decision. Don’t make spontaneous decisions, don’t let your emotions influence you, collect the required information and data, ask any needed questions, be thorough, and then move forward.
