Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools, James Blair Middle School

Williamsburg, VA

Project Detail:

Market:

MBP supported Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools with construction management and commissioning services for this 21st century educational facility. The James Blair Middle School project consisted of a partial demolition to the 88,939-square-foot, two-story existing building and detached building to construct a new building on the James Blair parcel. Phase 1A repurposed the classroom wing of the original structure while phase 1B constructed a new school housing 600 students.

Built to create a collaborative and flexible learning space, the school includes a large and open collaboration hub with moveable lockers and furniture on each floor, and most classrooms include collapsible glass walls and moveable barriers to allow teachers the ability to adjust and expand their lessons. The school also includes walls throughout the school that are made of whiteboard-like material, an “auditeria,” which includes the auditorium and cafeteria that share a stage in between with a moveable divider that can also be accessed from the gymnasium, and a centralized staircase for student gathering.
