Project Detail:

MBP provided program and construction management services. MBP’s services included preparation of the project’s budget, procurement support for the design and construction phases, constructibility reviews, value engineering, risk management, schedule reviews, quality assurance inspections, and an on-site construction management team. The project involved a 175,000-square-foot facility to provide a dynamic living-learning environment for the next generation of engineers, nurses, nutritionists, physicists, public health professionals, scientists, and other critical-demand positions. Facility features include advanced laboratories, modern academic program space, state-of-the-art simulation, as well as dedicated dining and conference services.

The project also included a 100,000-square-foot health and sciences academic program, 400-space parking facility, relocation of an existing cell tower service, and demolition of an existing boiler plant and utility building which originally occupied the project site. The boiler plant project involves abatement and demolition of the WCU existing and dormant coal-fired steam utility plant and corresponding free-standing smokestack. In addition, this project phase of the overall WCU dining program will necessitate relocation of wireless telecom cell site antennae residing on the smokestack and the supporting accessory infrastructure. Other existing site elements and building structures within the proposed site perimeter of the dining facility will also be included as part of the abatement, demolition, and site improvement design and construction activities. The effort produced $7.2 million in savings without sacrificing program space.
