Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Addition and Alteration Program

Bethesda, MD

MBP provided program management support, governance oversight, risk management, and schedule coordination for this complex, multi-phase modernization project at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Our services included leading tiered governance meetings, facilitating stakeholder partnering workshops, managing a comprehensive project risk register, and developing an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) to support coordination across construction, utilities, telecommunications, and equipment installation.

The $600 million Medical Center Addition and Alteration Program (P114) is transforming the nation’s largest military medical facility. Phase 1 included the demolition of six outdated buildings and the construction of a six-story, 574,611-square-foot medical tower. The project required seamless coordination among multiple agencies and stakeholders, all while maintaining uninterrupted hospital operations. MBP’s leadership helped align nine major stakeholder organizations, manage over 100 active risks, and facilitate collaborative problem-solving. MBP’s expertise in governance and risk management ensured the project remained on schedule and prepared for the transition to Phases 2 and 3.
