Virginia Treatment Center for Children
Richmond, VA
MBP provided owner’s representative and construction management services to Virginia Commonwealth University Health System (VCUHS) for the new Pediatric Behavioral Health Center at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU’s Brook Road Campus. Services included full-time construction monitoring and inspections, quality assurance, coordination with state representatives, review and recommendation of pay applications and change orders, and comprehensive documentation of construction progress. MBP also supported safety oversight and discrepancy resolution and maintained detailed project records to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
The project involved the construction of a new 119,000-square-foot facility to replace the outdated 54-year-old Virginia Treatment Center for Children (VTCC). Located on the Brook Road Campus, the state-of-the-art center was designed as an accessible, family-friendly pediatric psychiatric facility. The building houses inpatient units, outpatient behavioral health services, the Children’s Mental Health Resource Center, and the Commonwealth Institute for Child and Family Studies. The facility emphasizes therapeutic design elements, integrating natural light and nature to create a healing environment for children and families.
