University of Virginia, The Forum Hotel

Charlottesville, VA

MBP provided comprehensive commissioning services throughout the design, construction, acceptance, and post-occupancy phases of this project. Our scope included commissioning of HVAC systems—chilled and heating water systems, air handling units, energy recovery units, variable air volume terminal units, fan coil units, kitchen make-up, and exhaust air units—along with DDC control systems. Electrical system commissioning included the emergency generator, electrical distribution, and lighting controls. Plumbing system commissioning encompassed domestic water heaters and pumps, as well as utility metering. In addition, MBP performed building envelope commissioning of the foundation, walls, windows, and roofs.

The project involved the construction of a new 200,535-square-foot, five-story Hotel and Conference Center with a mechanical penthouse. The facility includes guestrooms, meeting spaces, a ballroom, a restaurant, an exercise room, offices, and support spaces, providing connectivity between the Law School, Business School, and Hotel on the university’s north grounds. The project achieved LEED Silver certification.
