Duke Health, Chesterfield Building

Durham, NC

MBP provided mechanical commissioning services for the Duke Chesterfield Upfit project, a multi-phase renovation converting 100,000 square feet of former factory shell space into research, preparatory, and optics laboratories, as well as office and conference areas for researchers.

Our team commissioned a range of critical systems, including process chillers, fan coil units, terminal units, dehumidification systems, laboratory exhaust and fume hoods, computer room air conditioning units, humidifiers, building automation systems, vacuum pumps, domestic hot water systems, generators and transfer switches, and the building management system. During the commissioning process, MBP identified discrepancies in the designed supply and exhaust airflows that could have impacted lab operations and researcher safety. We worked closely with the owner, design team, and contractors to lead resolution discussions. As a result, the design was modified to ensure the labs operated safely and effectively.
