Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, Children’s Pavilion

Norfolk, VA

MBP provided commissioning services during the design, construction, and warranty phases of the Medical Tower II project. The primary goal of the commissioning process was to identify and resolve potential design and construction issues early, ensuring optimal building performance while minimizing the risk of costly delays or changes. MBP’s comprehensive commissioning approach verified that the facility met the design intent and would fully support the Children’s Health System’s mission of delivering leading pediatric healthcare services. Our scope included commissioning building systems and design phase building envelope commissioning (BECx).

The project involved a new 14-story, 366,700-square-foot facility featuring 60 private inpatient beds, behavioral and specialty clinics, a partial hospitalization program, therapy spaces for music, art, and sensory needs, family lounges, and a rooftop recreation and horticultural area.

During the 75% construction document review, MBP identified several spaces lacking exhaust air provisions. The design team addressed these issues before releasing the final construction documents, avoiding potential change orders and project delays.
