MBP provided commissioning services for the new Mary M. Torggler Fine Arts Center at Christopher Newport University. Serving the Christopher Newport community, Hampton Roads and all of Virginia, the Mary M. Torggler Fine Arts Center cultivates extraordinary encounters with the visual arts. Whether viewing an exhibition, taking a class, or attending a lecture or gallery talk, the Torggler beckons you to explore compelling ideas through the transformative lens of visual art.

The project involved the construction of a new 83,000-square-foot building and renovations to the existing 16,980-square-foot Ferguson Center. The Mary M. Torggler Fine Arts Center which was connected to the existing Ferguson Center by an arcade that continually flows from the Ferguson Center to the Torggler Center, features a stunning rotunda of cascading glass domes, symbolizing Christopher Newport’s bold vision for the role art plays in the life of our university, our community and commonwealth. The space houses a lobby, classrooms, lecture hall, seminar, studios, exhibits, gallery, labs, offices, mechanical rooms, and support spaces. The renovation at the Ferguson Center included a band room, offices, and a recording studio.
