Meet Savannah Dotson, a Senior Commissioning Engineer at MBP. Savannah brings nine years of experience delivering building commissioning services across a wide range of facility types, including museums, higher education, K-12, government, and office buildings.

Savannah supports projects through every phase of commissioning—from design and construction to occupancy and warranty. She conducts design reviews, prepares commissioning specifications and plans, reviews Owner’s Project Requirements and Basis of Design documents, and guides projects through functional performance testing. Known for her thorough field oversight and collaborative approach, Savannah plays a key role in ensuring building systems operate as intended and deliver long-term value to clients.

A Day in Savannah's Life

Q&A with Savannah

What’s your role at MBP, and what does a typical day look like?: As a Senior Commissioning Engineer at MBP, my role involves ensuring that building systems are installed, tested, and operating in accordance with the design intent. A typical day may include conducting site walks, observing and testing equipment performance in the field, or working from the office reviewing drawings and submittals, developing commissioning plans, and preparing project documentation.
What inspired you to pursue a career in commissioning?: Construction and engineering have always intrigued me, even from a young age. It is rewarding to be part of something that starts as a concept on paper and becomes a building that benefits the community. I love to drive by completed projects and point out to my friends and family that I was a part of turning that vision into a reality.
What advice would you give to someone starting a career in this industry?: Don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions and take good notes. There is so much to learn, and technology and processes are always changing. Finding a good mentor to shadow and explain concepts also helps. I owe a lot of my current knowledge and development to my mentors and the team that trained me.
If you weren’t in your current job, what would you be doing?: I would open an indoor dog park called “The Ruff House.” I love to play outside with my dog, but sometimes it’s too hot or too cold. I might even offer human and doggie snacks.
What was the first concert you ever attended?: My first concert was the Jonas Brothers in the 7th grade. I’m still a fan and just saw them in August 2025.
Favorite way to unwind after a busy week?: I enjoy going on walks with my family to the playground and swimming laps at the gym.
