Construction Manager
Meet Kevin Lucas, Construction Manager in the Transportation Services line at MBP. With 20 years of experience, Kevin has worked on everything from roadways and drainage systems to reinforced concrete structures and bridges. He’s spent over five years inspecting projects for VDOT and has extensive experience in materials testing for heavy/highway and building projects.
Kevin’s job is all about keeping projects on track—whether he’s managing complex design-build requirements, inspecting stormwater systems, or ensuring everything runs smoothly on the job site. When he’s not overseeing drainage or grading, Kevin is making sure all the little details are taken care of to keep things moving forward.

What do you enjoy most about working at MBP?

Of course, the camaraderie of friends who make the journey enjoyable and provide support along the way makes any endeavor so much richer.

My professional development and career growth at MBP have been significantly supported through diverse avenues. I have been afforded numerous opportunities that have effectively challenged and expanded my existing skill set, and my engagement with colleagues possessing complementary strengths has provided invaluable learning experiences. Notably, various members of the leadership team have been instrumental in supporting my pursuit of a Civil Engineering Technology degree.

What is some advice you’d give to your 20-year-old self?
Embrace uncertainty and explore, and your path may evolve. Cherish relationships – they’re your anchors. Mistakes are teachers, resilience is key. Prioritize well-being. Stay curious and learn constantly. And finally, trust your instincts. That inner voice often knows more than you think. Also, maybe try talking a tad less and listening a whole lot more. You’d be amazed at what you can learn when your mouth isn’t moving!

The Annual Business Meeting at MBP stands out as a highlight for me. It’s a valuable opportunity to gain insights from compelling presentations on the past year’s achievements and learnings. And of course, the chance to reconnect and catch up with cherished mentors, friends, and colleagues whom I don’t see regularly makes it an event I eagerly anticipate.

What is your favorite way to unwind after a busy week?
My favorite way to unwind after a busy week is to go kayaking, kick back and watch a movie outside by a fire, or go camping. Mostly, just spending time with family and friends, disconnecting from challenges at work, and resetting for the next week.
