MBP provided program management services including oversight of the design development, site selection process, constructibility review, full-time, on-site construction management services, site inspections, utilities coordination, progress monitoring and reporting to school board, CPM scheduling review, payment application review, and cost estimating services.
The project, located on a 81-acre site, included the 145,000-square-foot Lois S. Hornsby Middle School and the 91,000-square-foot J. Blaine Blayton Elementary School. The two schools share a common parking lot for staff and visitors, and each school has its own bus parking and turnaround areas that have separate entrances from the main road to minimize vehicle traffic into school loading and unloading zones. There are a number of athletic fields including two softball, one baseball, and four multi-purpose fields. The project also included three large stormwater ponds, playgrounds, play areas, maintenance storage building, outdoor stage at the middle school, and an environmental study area that consists of a deck and walkway along the perimeter of one of the stormwater management ponds. In addition to their classroom spaces, each school has its own gym, media center, cafeteria, full-service kitchen, and administrative area. The elementary school has an elevated platform stage between its gym and cafeteria, while the middle school has a performance level auditorium.
“I want to commend MBP for the outstanding job of construction management on our Lois S. Hornsby Middle School and J. Blaine Blayton Elementary School projects. There is no question in my mind that our project went so smoothly was because of the staff at MBP assigned to these projects. As significant as managing the budget and schedule were to the success of our project, it was the skillful managing of the entire process and people that made this project a success. That, I believe is one of the real strengths of MBP and their construction managers.”
