MBP provided complete construction management and inspection services including quality assurance, quality control, maintenance of traffic, erosion and sediment control compliance, and extensive CPM schedule review. MBP worked with the contractor to develop enhancements to the construction phasing which resulted in significant schedule improvement. Prior to construction, MBP developed pre-bid CPM schedules and performed constructibility review of the plans and phasing. This project consisted of the first braided collector-distributor lanes in the urban Hampton Roads area. This phased construction project included nearly six lane miles of concrete paving with expansion of I-64 from six lanes to 14 lanes, four new interstate bridges over existing roadways and railroads, asphalt paving, mechanically stabilized earth walls, demolition and replacement of the existing Battlefield Boulevard bridge over I-64, sound barrier walls, box culverts, signage, utility work, landscaping, and the completion of the fiber optic traffic management system.

“The Battlefield Boulevard project met all performance metrics, not an easy task on a complex $100,000,000 interstate interchange and widening project. The MBP team reduced the complexity through innovation and creativity. Your attention to the details of traffic flow in the area revealed the need for additional weave lanes at the 1-464 interchange, which you then designed and implemented. This cost-effective solution has permanently improved traffic flow, again a solution that will reduce incidents, and mitigate congestion. This speaks not only to construction management expertise but also the high emotional intelligent quotient necessary to lead the team of contractors, designers, utilities, other governmental agencies, and the public to a successful project for the Commonwealth. Thank you for your active role in fulfilling our mission; Keep Virginia Moving.”
