City of Chesapeake Selects MBP for Dominion Boulevard Improvements
MBP to Provide Construction Engineering and Inspection Services

Chesapeake, Virginia - MBP is pleased to announce that the firm has been selected to provide construction engineering inspection services to the City of Chesapeake for its Dominion Boulevard Improvements project.

The estimated $300 million construction contract involves a vital portion of the US Route 17 connector linking Interstate 64/464 in Hampton Roads to Northeastern North Carolina. The 3.8-mile project will widen the existing two lanes of Route 17/Dominion Boulevard to a limited access freeway with two lanes in each direction, including three interchanges. The project also includes two, 6,000-foot-long parallel bridges over the Elizabeth River.

"We are thrilled to have been selected for this very important construction engineering and inspection contract," says Michael Prezioso, PE, CCM, Senior Vice President/Regional Manager. "MBP has been working with the City of Chesapeake for several years, and we are pleased to continue our relationship on this high-profile project."

Construction is planned to start in January 2013 and is estimated to take nearly four years to complete. The new route, including fixed-span, 95-foot, high-rise bridges over the Elizabeth River, will address safety and capacity deficiencies for both roadway and maritime traffic.

"This project will bring much needed roadway improvements, as well as positive economic activity to the local area," says Prezioso.

Dominion Boulevard was originally constructed in 1962, and includes a twin bascule-span, two-lane bridge operated by the City of Chesapeake.
