MBP Wins a CMAA National Capital Chapter 2009 Project Achievement Award
Fairfax, VA - McDonough Bolyard Peck, Inc. (MBP), in joint venture with AECOM, has been selected by the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) National Capital Chapter as the winner of the 2009 Project Achievement Award in the category of Project value less than $100 million for Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia. This is MBP's third consecutive Project Achievement Award Recognition.
The Project involved an $88 million complete re-build of the high school and was completed in three phases over three and a half years while maintaining occupancy. Work on the project included demolishing approximately 250,000 square feet of the existing high school and constructing a new 350,000 square foot school, which includes a four-story classroom wing, cafeteria, media center, gymnasiums, auditorium, and an indoor swimming pool. The project earned a LEED-Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The National Capital Chapter Project Achievement Awards program recognizes excellence in construction and program management. Along with Washington-Lee High School, four other projects were recognized for their excellence at CMAA's National Capital Chapter Annual Scholarship and Project Awards Dinner on April 15, 2010 in Arlington, Virginia.
"Great projects are synonymous with great teamwork," says Douglas Wrenn, CEM, CBCP, LEED AP, and Senior Project Manager. "This project had the best owner, architect, contractor, and construction management team I've ever worked with; everyone was dedicated to meeting the overall project goals."
As the Project's Construction Manager and Owner respectively, MBP/ AECOM and Arlington Public Schools were recognized at the Awards and Scholarships Dinner, which was held at Reagan National Airport's Historic Terminal A Lobby.
