Washington Lee High School Receives LEED-Gold Certification

Fairfax, VA - - McDonough Bolyard Peck, Inc. (MBP) is pleased to announce that Washington Lee High School, an Arlington County Public School for which the firm served as the on-site Construction Manager, has received LEED-Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) rating system.

MBP provided LEED assistance throughout the course of the $85 million re-build of Washington-Lee High School. MBP's team of LEED Accredited Professionals (APs) has grown to nearly 40; the team's experience includes sustainable site designs, stormwater management and erosion control practices, evaluation of new construction vs. existing building rehabilitation, energy efficiency and renewable energy systems, indoor air quality, and many other key components of the USGBC LEED Program.

"Washington Lee's LEED Gold Certification marks an important achievement of MBP's LEED practice," says Doug Wrenn, CEM, LEED AP, Senior Project Manager. "While initially aiming for Silver Certification from the USGBC, MBP helped execute the requirements needed for successful LEED certification sufficiently enough to ensure a Gold Certification."

The LEED certification process began with the design phase of the project in 2005. The project was completed in three phases over 3 ½ years while maintaining occupancy. In addition to LEED assistance, MBP provided complete construction management services including pre-construction phase design, constructibility, and cost reviews; phasing and master scheduling; scope of work, bid alternate, bid package development; contractor pre-qualification and selection; as well as, full-time on-site owner's representation, inspection, and project management services during construction.
