Main Duties:
The purpose of this position is to assure construction contractor compliance of Navy safety regulations and contracts as required through NAVFAC’s Occupational Safety and Health program. The incumbent services as the technical authority and expert on construction and services contractor safety and health. The position requires on site oversight of all safety and health-related activities and requirements. As such, he/she develops and provides guidance to and assists the Officer in Charge of Construction (OICC) office in Bethesda, MD in support of BRAC project P005V ( New Walter Reed Medical Center) in applying sound construction safety and health programs during the construction phase of facilities acquisition. US Citizenship is required.
Education and Knowledge:
- Bachelors in Occupational Safety and Health from a credited university or 20 years of construction experience. General Experience and knowledge of:Construction Quality Assurance program; Army Corps of Engineer’s safety program.
- A Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and 5 years construction experience/ or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and 5 years construction experience or 20 years construction safety experience.
- 30-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent within the last 5 years.
- An average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past 5 years with training for competent person status for at least the following areas of competency: [ Cranes & Rigging]; [Excavation]; [Scaffolding]; [Fall protection]; [Hazardous energy]; [Confined space]; [Health hazard recognition, evaluation and control of chemical, physical and biological agents]; [Personal protective equipment and clothing to include selection, use and maintenance.
